Got a question for everyone who writes (novels, comics/graphic novels, screenplays, the works). What software do you use to organize your writing?
I've been using OpenOffice for a while, which isn't the most ideal creative writing software, but it works. And then it started bugging on me, and now I can't even save my own writing (thank goodness for copy and paste). I use CeltX for the actual script/dialogue portion, but I'm wondering if there's a better solution out there. I want to be able to chart out my plots and subplots and see how they roll together a la timeline. Robert McKee suggested using notecards/post-it notes, which is fine and dandy, but I like being able to access it on the computer. I'm disorganized with my stuff anyway. My laptop is way more organized than my room.
And while GoogleDocs is a brilliantly made piece of software, I'm not too keen on hosting my writing on a server cloud. I'd rather save it onto my own hard drive. I have tried using Spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel/Google Spreadsheets to map out my stuff, but moving cells around is a bit of a hassle.
So is anyone as crazy about writing organization as I am? Or is my quest for the perfect creative writing software an unfruitful one?
For the next few weeks, I'm going to be drawing out the rest of my characters for A Violet for Master. Here's who I have left to draw.
Liam Cronin - an ambassador from a ruling-class family lineage that mysteriously was taken down from power. He's on a quest to find out what happened while maintaining his ambassador-duties.
Roshan Gulabani - a quiet but highly-skilled soldier who starts suspecting something's wrong with the crew, and ultimately, the captain. He takes charge as First Officer under Violet.
Elliot Rodgers - a well-liked, charismatic family man from the colonies. He's highly patriotic to his home country, but his motives are questionable. He takes charge as Second Officer under Violet.
Felix Summers - local hero to the colonies and best friend of Elliot Rodgers. He's very much concerned about the well being of his country.
Marcellus - a mysterious man who teleports from open flames and shows up at unexpected (and generally unwanted) times. I think you know this guy already.
I think I'll redraw Violet, too.

Cans of Beans + Senior Year Woes
It's been a while since I wrote one of these. Hi!
I've been in school for the last 3-4 weeks. It's my senior year as an LCAD animation student, and I'm busy as heck, but luckily I'm a master of scheduling to ensure that comics and animation get done on time (actually, more like scheduling apprentice, novice, padawan, etc.).
Actually, that's where I'll have to let you know on one of my production worries. Over the summer and part of last semester, I had time to 1) animate 2) produce comic pages and 3) promote comic around. Now that I'm in probably the most work-heavy portion of my school career, my schedule has now slanted to 1) animate 2) p
I haven't abandoned dA I swear! (CoB related)
I've just been seduced by the sweet, sweet community of Tumblr. It's not that I don't like dA, it's just Tumblr has been really good to me thus far. By the way, I'm doing doodle responses again. Go ahead, throw a question at Dude and Carl! http://cansofbeans.tumblr.com/ask
On that note, I'm going to start uploading pages from Cans of Beans on here, as a back-up gallery for it in case ComicFury (my comic host) ever goes dark or is unable to load. The official Cans of Beans site will always be the first to get comic pages.
Secondly, about the Cans of Beans site itself. How do you guys feel about it? Do you think some parts could be better? Ma

The best part about wiki organization is also it's greatest weakness. It's incredibly open to almost any information input. You can create pages about anything with as much information and multimedia as you can put into it. At the same time, though, if you don't go at at with an attack plan it can become daunting very soon. I use mine to organize character relationships, profiles, and story arcs, but I also tend to word dump much more than I draw. Depends how you want to organize your thoughts, I guess. Scrivener might be a better fit for you if you haven't tried out the trial yet.
